The Open Door Community is a residential Christian Community serving homeless people in the city of Atlanta and prisoners and their families in the state of Georgia. The 20+ members of the community live and work full-time together in our home on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta. We come from many different backgrounds: formerly homeless, poor, rich, privileged, black and white, young and old. In our life together we struggle to break down the barriers of racism, classism and sexism. In all our work, we are called to practice hospitality and friendliness. We are not here simply to provide services, but to share God's love, mercy and compassion with our needy brothers and sisters. The Open Door Community was founded in 1981.
