Created in 1969, Ohel Children's Home and Family Services grew from one program caring for several children to an extensive social services agency sustaining inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. 'OHEL', is the Hebrew word for shelter or tent. Building upon the concept of 'Everyone Needs A Family', OHEL established a sister organization, Bais Ezra (A Helping House), which provides services and care to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. A third sister organization, The Lifetime Care Foundation for the Jewish Disabled, works with families and loved ones of the elderly, homebound and persons with disabilities to plan for their future care. OHEL's mission is to serve people with disabilities and families in crisis in the Jewish community, primarily in the New York Metropolitan region. OHEL's mandate is to develop services that may otherwise not be available to meet the cultural needs of the Jewish community.
