The mission of Jazz In June is to educate the public regarding jazz, as a unique American musical art form by serving as a showcase for the many diverse forms of jazz. Jazz in June was founded in 1984 by the Norman Arts and Humanities Council and the Cimarron Circuit Opera Company as a joint project. In 1989 Jazz In June was incorporated as an independent 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. In its 25 years of operation Jazz In June annually presents free concerts, underwritten by a variety of donors, to concert audiences of 50,000. In addition to its concerts and educational programs, Jazz in June, in partnership with KGOU=KROU Public Radio, produces an 8-10 radio program for each year's festival and makes this program available to public radio stations throughout the United States. The concerts are presented over three evenings at two different venues.
