Other Options, Inc.

3005 N. May
Oklahoma City, OK - 73107

Our mission is to work in close harmony with other AIDS Service Organizations, specifically the Ryan White Title II, III and this year we added Title IV, which includes women and children at risk located in University Hospital. Since we work only by referrals from CarePoint, Red Rock North Mental Health, Dakota Village and University High Risk OB Clinic, we are considered an unduplicated service exclusive to HIV/AIDS men, women and children and their families in the 580 and 405 areas of Oklahoma State. Many of our shoppers are homeless receiving no income. Others receive Social Security Supplementmal income of $550 monthly and Aid To the Disabled through Welfare Department of $58. Most receive $10 worth of Food Stamps. Friends Food Pantry works in close unison with all other services provided. Ryan White Case Managers, Medication Programs, Clinics, Housing, and Mental Health facilities refer to the pantry. We receive a faxed referral from a case manager, assign a number for confidentiality and direct the person to the pantry where they will shop for free food for their entire family or partner. Besides free groceries they have access to haircuts, clothing, vitamins, nutrition formula, and condoms weekly. If they cannot shop and are home bound or bedfast, personalized food boxes and frozen prepared meals are home delivered weekly. Nutritionist provide recipes, and extra food vouchers. Friends allows our shoppers to ive nutritionally healthy and independent. Ryan White Title II, III, and IV refer those clients they feel need food and other services. Our income standards are designated by the Federal Governments Poverty guidelines, however of the 450 registered shoppers, 96% live on less than $600 per month for single individuals. Our second Progrm is recycling AIDS medications from clients who change medication often and have extra or someone dies and the drugs are given to OOI and are accessed by prescriptions through case managers. Paper work often take 6 weeks or longer for the meds to reach the client. During that six weeks we act as a safety net for AIDS meds. For our Third Program, we adopted a free AIDS Clinic in Guatemala City, Guatemala, South America. The Luis Angel Family Clinic helps over a 1000 people monthly. They have some 80 babies and 30 adults on AIDS meds because there is never enough medications many hospitals, clinics and doctors and nurses all over the US mail AIDS meds that we recyle the Guatemala. Airline Ambassadors in Dallas Texas fly the meds to the clinic two times per month. Since there is never enough we always seek out clinics and hospitals across the U.S. to send their meds to us. A board of medical personal carefully check the drugs before we are allowed to inventory them and drive them to Dallas and Airline Ambassadors for their flight to Guatemala. This program and the Friends Food Pantry were all started four years ago. Other Options has been active in the acitoniitals, clinics and individuals mail AIDS medications (only) to us for inventory and repacking. These meds are then taken to Dallas, Texas for Airline Ambassadors to ship them free by way of American Airlines and on to Guatemala City at least 2 times per month depending on those who respond to sending us the meds. No narcotics are received and meds must be indate. Only the name is removed, all else remains. For further instructions on sending meds to us please visit, www.aidscommunity.org/otheroptions or www.macaw.com/hivmeds/
